Wilmer (Bill) Mann, age 97, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, joined his beloved Ann in glory on June 12, 2021.
Bill was born August 20, 1923, in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. After high school, he joined the Army, where he went from a corporal playing cornet in the military band to a sergeant serving on General Eisenhower's staff during World War II. He left the service in 1946 and moved to Savannah, Georgia where he met the great love of his life, Ann Sheppard, whom he wed in 1949.
Bill started working for the railroad in 1947, retiring early from CSX in 1989 to care full time for a quadriplegic Ann. The pair were happily married for 46 years, only separated by Ann's passing in 1995. He is survived by his two children Rick Mann (Elaine), Kathy Mann Spencer (Frank), five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity and above all love.
A service for family and friends will take place at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 29, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 1801 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, Bill would hope that you would follow his example and do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for a loved one. Even as his body grew frail, his heart for others remained unfailing. He will be dearly missed.
