William M. White Sr, 91, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on December 17, 2018. He was born November 30, 1927 in Shawnee, OK to Marvin and Ava (Derryberry) White. William was an Officer of the Salvation Army Church as a young man and then worked for the railroad for 15 years in Tampa, FL. He moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1983 and was a manager and owner of several restaurants. He was a Christian and man of faith. He loved music and played the cornet. He was also a big sports fan of football and baseball. He also had a great sense of humor and always liked a good joke. He spent the last 30 years of his life as a pastor, serving the City Rescue Mission and the New Life Inn, and helping countless others. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
William was preceded in death by his mother, Ava White; daughters, Pamela Hope and Lori Denise; son, Michael Joseph; sister, Jean and two brothers.
He is survived by children, Billy and Cathy of Greenville, SC, David and Michelle of Jacksonville, FL and Melissa and Russell of Jacksonville, FL; sister, La June Beams of Houston, TX and 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 12:00 pm, Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Salvation Army Church, 15 Church Street East, Jacksonville, FL 32202 with Major Bert Tanner officiating.
