William J Koenig KMOB passed away 9/8/2023. He was born 9/29/1929 in Miami, Fl. during the Wall Street crash of 1929. Bill attended St. Mary’s Catholic grade school and high school in Miami. After graduation, he attended the University of Florida and graduated with a degree in business. Later he received an MA in finance and accounting. Bill entered the Air Force in 1953 and served in the Pentagon in finance in the Office of Special Investigation. He rose to the rank of First Lieutenant.
After leaving the Air Force, he became an accountant at Peet Marwick & Mitchell accounting firm in Miami. Bill then meets his wife, Patrica Mies, of Decatur, IN on a blind date arranged by the Dean at Barry College for Women. His career then took him to the Dominican Republic to become head of finance for the shipyard Astillermos Dominicanos. Patrica became an Pan American Airlines stewardess flying to the Dominican Republic. In 1956 they married and moved to Jacksonville Florida.
They started raising their family, William Jospeh Koenig Jr. 1957, John Carl Koenig 1958, Mark Matthew Koenig 1960 and David Richard Koenig 1965. Bill stayed in finance and became CFO of many companies, such as, Burger King, Hardies, and Pizza Time Theater (Chuckie Cheese) putting them on the New York Stock Exchange. Later he became CEO of Escagenetics Corporation and Phyto Pharmaceuticals in the Silcone Valley. Bill retired in 1997, and they moved to Switzerland, Fl.
Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and traveling to foreign countries with Pat and their sons. Bill was a member of San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus for 72 years.
As a Member of the Knights & Dames of Malta American Association of New York, Bill & Pat, formed the North Florida Chapter of the Knights of Malta in the early 2000s. The Knights & Dames help the sick, poor, and the very indignant. As area Chair of this Chapter, Bill & Pat accompanied the group of Matla on many trips to Lourdes, France.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Koenig, and his children, William Jr. (Kearna), John (Lisa), Mark (Danielle), and David (Kerri). Ten Grandchildren and eight Great Grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his Father and mother John and Emma Koenig, brother John, and sister Pat.
Mass will be held at San Juan Del Rio Church in Switzerland, FL on Saturday 10/21/2023 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Knights & Dames of Malta or Cross Catholic Outreach.
