Violet G. Butterbaugh May 7, 1924 - October 6, 2021
“Violet”, born Geraldine Gertrude Constantineau in Marquette, Michigan,
passed away peacefully at home in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 97.
Violet was young at heart, always the life of the party, and lived an active
social life. She enjoyed sewing, needle crafts, baking, reading, and doting
on her many pets over the years. She also loved to play cards and was
fond of an afternoon cocktail.
Violet liked special treatment as she got older. For example, when we
played cards she would sometimes use her age as an excuse. When she
was a few points short she would say “close enough.” She really wanted to
live to be 100 years old. We say she was “close enough!”
She will live on in the hearts of those she is survived by, including her
children: Carolyn Jean "Tootsie" (Ken) Tomak of Portage, Indiana; Roger Viau of
Cornell, Michigan; Julie Ann (Larry) Bush of Jacksonville, Florida; Timothy
Patrick (Jan) Viau of Milton, Florida; Debi Jo (Audie) Chiolo of Wichita,
Kansas; and Darlene “Dolly” Ann (Tom) Nelson of Westville, Indiana. Violet
is also survived by one sister, Barbara Kent of Iron Mountain, Michigan and
her many wonderful grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great
grandchildren.
Violet was preceded in death by her son Richard L. Viau of Escanaba,
Michigan; great great grandson Zachary Tomak of Portage, Indiana; two
sisters Ruth Berro and Jane Bosley, brother Wallace L. Constantineau and
four husbands.
A very special appreciation and thanks to Julie Bush who was devoted to
giving Violet excellent care over the last several years.
A celebration of Violet’s life will be held at a later date for friends and
family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter in Violet's name.
