Thomas Roger Smallwood
Thomas (Tom) Roger Smallwood, 84, passed away peacefully on June 3 rd , 2020 after a long battle with Lewy Body Disease and Dementia. He was born in Long Beach, NY on June 24 th , 1935 to Charles (Charlie) Black Smallwood and Myra Virginia Burnap Smallwood.
Tom attended Bladensburg High School in Bladensburg, MD. He continued his education after he started his family and completed six years of military service in the United States Army. Tom graduated with his Electrical Engineering degree from the University of South Florida, Tampa on August 13 th , 1982.
Tom worked for ten years at PEPCO in Washington, DC followed by 31 years of working for Florida Power. He retired from Florida Power in 2001.
Tom was predeceased by his youngest son Jeffrey (Randy Blim), his wife Ethel, his brother Charles and his parents Charlie and Myra Smallwood.
He is survived by his two sisters: Holly Romero and Nanette Carmody (Jim), his children: Thomas K. Smallwood (Pam); Rusty Smallwood (Pat); Lisa Miller (Tim) and Randy Elledge (Michelle), and his six grandchildren Jennifer Smallwood, Timothy Smallwood (Keni), Bryn Shattuck-Smallwood, Regan Johnson, Nikki Pierce (Dan) and Mallory Miller. Tom also had four great grandchildren, Samantha Smallwood, Connor Smallwood, Peyton Smallwood and Royce King. Tom is also survived by his lifelong sister-in -law Susan Summers (Julie Rundell).
Tom will be remembered by his many names, Dad, Tom, Tommy, Grandpa and Granddaddy. He will also be remembered for his huge heart and most loving, calm and gentle manner. Tom was a caring person who deeply loved his family and friends.
A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be arranged in the fall when travel is easier for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for contributions in Tom’s memory to either of the organizations below.
