Thomas “Tom” Harrison Dunn of Jacksonville, Florida joined our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 7, 2024. He was born on June 10, 1933 in Jacksonville, FL, son of the late Octavia and R.C. Dunn of Ponte Vedra Beach.
Tom was a graduate of Fletcher High School where he was an outstanding football player and track star. After high school he attended FSU and also proudly served in the US Marine Corps as a Sergeant during the Korean war.
Tom was co-owner of “Dunn Tire Company” with his father, then eventually took over as owner. He also owned “Dunn Storage Trailers”. During this time he served on the board at Southside United Church, as well as Jacksonville Tire Dealers, National Credit Association, Meninak Club, Jax Improvement Living and Jax Seminole Boosters. He also found time to share quality time with his family and friends, taking fun camping trips together, dirt-biking, attending sports activities and Indian Guides with his son, Tommy.
He later merged his company with “Cotney Tire” then went to work for “RJ Mack Company” for a number of years. During these years he was an active tennis player, leading him to move to the “Bigtree Tennis Community” where he made many friends and also served on the HOA Board.
After retiring Tom got involved with many hobbies, including: electric trains, the Jax. Remote Control Boat Club, and the Jax. Wood-Working Club. He enjoyed these activities with new friends, as well as organizing luncheons and “get-togethers” with his many high school, business, and tennis friends. He also focused much of his time and attention on his growing family. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He attended many of their sports events, birthday celebrations, and other special events, building them things, and cheering them on. He also enjoyed taking many special family trips together.
He is survived by his daughter , Katherine LeSage (Paul), and son, Tommy Dunn (Marilyn) and his four grandchildren who affectionately called him “Tomdady”.
Tom will be buried at the Jacksonville National Cemetery where his family will hold a private service in his honor.
We have too many people to thank by name for all of the wonderful care given to our dad over the years, so we will say ”Thanks to God” for sending so many of His Angels.
