Terry Wayne Medders, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away on October 13, 2021 at the age of 64.
Born December 29, 1956, in Jacksonville, Florida, Terry was the son of Hezzie Lee Medders and Frances Medders Peacock. He lived his entire childhood and adult life on North Roscoe Blvd, in Palm Valley, Florida, until retiring and moving to St. Augustine in 2015.
Growing up in Palm Valley was a gift and Terry spent his youth surfing, fishing, and learning his lifelong trade from his dad. He attended Fletcher High School where he began to date the love of his life, Linda Mickler.
Terry enjoyed a long career as a Master Carpenter with incredible projects that were well known and admired throughout the area – some were even featured in the Times Union! He took pride in being meticulous with his work. No matter the task, Terry would take the time to ensure no detail was overlooked. Terry hated short cuts and if you worked with him on any project, you would be schooled on the importance of “doing it right or not doing it at all”. His work ethic was strong just like the old-timers he admired so much. Terry was not afraid of hard work and would keep you motivated with the words of John Wayne, “Hurry up! We’re burning daylight!”
And just like those who taught him, he believed in repurposing things. Terry has an old shed filled with reclaimed wood and “re-straightened” nails to prove it! He loved spending hours in his wood working shop planning his next one-of-a-kind creation; the same shop where he held many a “board” meeting with family and friends, engaging in gut-busting laughter and solving the problems of the world.
Terry was so proud to be a Valley boy. He loved Ford Broncos, cruising down the Intracoastal, flounder gigging, pond parties, old western movies, a good flannel shirt, and music with meaning - Crosby Stills Nash and Young was his all-time favorite! Family, friends, camaraderie, and laughter made for the best times of Terry’s life, followed only by dancing to a great band. If you were ever near Terry and a great band, it’s almost guaranteed that you would be pulled on the dance floor with him because this guy loved to cut a rug!
But of all the things in life that Terry loved, his most fierce love was for his three girls: Linda, Erica, and Abby.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gary Medders, his niece, Amber Haggard, and his in-laws, Sidney and Jo Mickler, who loved Terry as if he was their own. He is survived by his soulmate and wife of 44 years, Linda Mickler Medders, two daughters, Erica Vona and Abbigayle Medders, four grandchildren, Callie, Gatlin, Corbit, and Delaney, his two sisters, Linda Smith and Charlene Powers, brother Brian Peacock, as well as several nieces, nephews and Palm Valley boys that he mentored along the way.
At Terry’s request, his family will forego the traditional funeral service and will honor his life privately at a later date.
The family wishes to thank Community Hospice of NE Florida for their tireless dedication and support.
Terry left an unforgettable mark on the world, and he will be terribly missed.
