Stephen Pommerenk

Stephen Pommerenk, 65, of Staten Island, New York passed away in his Jacksonville home Wednesday, September 13 surrounded by friends and family. The son of Charles Pommerenk and Kathleen Ryan.

Stephen also known as Steve by friends graduated from Susan E. Wagner High School in Staten Island, New York with the class of 1976. He worked at NYCHA for many years until his retirement in 1996. On July 16, 1988 he married Jennifer Ann Sbarbaro in Staten Island, New York. They raised 4 boys, Stephen, Jonathan, Brian & Joseph in Staten Island until moving to Jacksonville in the summer of 2004.

Together with Jennifer they created a home for themselves and their children in a new environment with countless opportunities. Always a tireless and hardworking individual, he began work on the house and yard that he'd always wanted, with the idea of making it more to his liking.

Stephen was at times a serious yet jovial person who could never go long without music playing. He enjoyed telling jokes, stories and laughing, many times at his own jokes. He loved spending time at the beach, watching baseball and enjoying his favorite foods. After losing his wife in 2016, Stephen found solace and purpose in the church along with his membership in the Knights of Columbus that brought him a feeling of fraternity during this difficult period in his life. After being diagnosed with cancer he never lost any of his endearing and admirable qualities of perseverance, steadfastness and good-natured humor.
