Stephen Murphey Hart

Stephen Murphey Hart, 62, lost his long battle with cancer at home May 2nd, 2022. He was blessed to have family members present as well as his nurse, Karen Martin. Steve was born July 27th 1959 at Harmon AFB in Newfoundland, Canada to Strother (Buz) Hart (deceased) and Edith Walters Hart. He lived in several states as the AF family transferred frequently making lasting friendships with each move before finally settling in Muncie, IN. Being a 1977 graduate of Delta High School he maintained a very close relationship with his former classmates and helped organize many class reunions. He ran the Jacksonville River Run for 35 consecutive years and even though he was unable to run this year, he cheered on the runners from his beach chair. Steve worked for Koger Properties for 27 years as a Maintenance Technician before starting his own successful painting business with the assistance of his two faithful painters, Ferney Rengifo and Manny Salcedo. Steve treasured his friendships and communicated daily with many, most of all, daily with his mother. He loved his neighborhood friends as well and often spoke of their compassion and helpfulness during his illness. A special thank you from his family to his dear friend, retired nurse Karen Martin, who was by his side for several weeks prior to his death.

Steve is survived by his daughter, Sarah Hart (spouse Matt Grace) of Valrico, FL, grandchildren Bryce, Brayden, and Alex, mother Edith Hart of Boca Raton, FL, brother Gary Hart of Jacksonville, Fl, sister Lee Ann Hart-Dauito of Boca Raton, FL, and brother Mike Hart (Angela) of Fishers, IN. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

A Mass of Celebration of Life will be held June 4th at 11:00 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church, 2403 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville, FL. A reception for friends and family to gather will immediately follow at the Parish Hall.
