Shirley Ann Cerreto

October 12, 1949 — February 20, 2024

Shirley Ann Cerreto, 74 of St. Augustine, Florida died peacefully at home Tuesday, February 20, 2024 surrounded by her family after a seven year battle with Multiple Myeloma.

Shirley was born in Norton, MA in 1949 to Robert A. Bignell and Betty Bignell.

Upon meeting her husband of 47 years, Carl A. Cerreto they married in Norton, MA and then settled in Falmouth, MA where they raised their daughter Gabrielle Egan. Shirley loved traveling and decorating and remodeling old homes. She first started her passion of building and remodeling homes while she was raising her family on Cape Cod, MA. As a highly creative person Shirley also loved to paint. The beauty of the ocean and the natural world was her inspiration. Shirley and Carl moved to Vero Beach, FL, in 1991 and lived there until 2007.

After Carl retired from the US Post Office they moved to Charleston, SC. They lived in Charleston until 2015 when they decided to move back to Indian River County, FL. They lived between Sebastian and Vero Beach, FL, until 2021 when they moved to St Augustine in order to be closer to the Mayo Clinic where Shirley was receiving treatment for her Multiple Myeloma.

Besides her passion for painting and remodeling old homes Shirley loved toy poodles. She and Carl adopted and loved toy poodles ever since their daughter gave them their first toy poodle in 1996.

Shirley was also an active member in the community. She was a member of the Vero Beach Museum of Art and the Charleston Artist Guild. Shirley regularly dedicated her free time to volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Backpack Buddies, Charleston Animal Society, The Myeloma Foundation and The American Cancer Society.

Shirley will be deeply missed and is survived by her husband Carl A. Cerreto; her daughter Gabrielle Egan; son-in-law, Brennan Egan; and two grandsons, Colan Egan and Bodhi Egan; her sister, Betty Farrand and her family and countless cousins, nieces and nephews. Condolences may be made to Carl Cerreto, 800 Sugarcane Avenue, St Augustine, Florida 32095. Memorial donations may be made in Shirley's honor to The Florida Poodle Rescue . A celebration of life will be held in April 25th, 2024 in St Augustine, Florida.
