Sarah Alvie Riddle Moore

March 20, 1934 — March 26, 2022

Sarah Alvie Riddle Moore, age 88 of Jacksonville, Florida passed away March 26, 2022. She was born in Goodwater, Alabama, to parents Zella Kite and Charles Wesley Riddell on March 20, 1934. She grew up in Brewton, Alabama and was a graduate of W.S. Neal High School in 1952. She met a young sailor named Vance Moore at a Navy dance in Whiting Field, Florida when she was 19 years old where they danced the night away to Patti Page, Eddie Fisher, Perry Como, and the Ames Brothers. She went on to see Vance reach the rank of Senior Chief with the U.S. Navy while raising their four children. Sarah is survived by her husband Vance and their children - daughter Majie Moore Dodge, and sons Robert (Marina) Moore, Myron (Jimmy Fields) Moore, and David (Julie) Moore.

Throughout their 68 years together, Sarah and Vance welcomed with great pride their grandchildren: Carly Mitchell, Philip Cason, Jessie (Noel) Moore, Crystal (Jason) Shapleigh, Sarah Moore, Tiffany (Howard) Cook, and Sammy (Sarah) Pendleton; great-grandsons Bradlee and Brian Shapleigh; and great-granddaughter Betsy Moore, with whom Sarah enjoyed watching Animal Planet and The Incredible Dr. Pol.
The youngest in her family, Sarah is preceded in death by all her siblings - four brothers and three sisters - making her the family matriarch. She took this role quite seriously and enjoyed being the center of attention to her many nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. She treasured every moment she spent with her loved ones and always found a special, unique way to connect with each and everyone she knew and loved.
Sarah's quick wit, southern charm and abundant sense of humor drew everyone to her. No one was ever a stranger, and Sarah always knew just what to say to lift someone's spirits or bring a smile. On Saturdays in the Fall there was only one place to find her, and that was cheering her beloved Alabama Crimson Tide. Regardless of how wide the point spread was, it was never enough for Sarah, and she would continue cheering her team until the final whistle blew.

Sarah answered to many names in her life - daughter, sister, wife, sister-in-law, Momma, Mema, and Aunt Sarah - but regardless of what she was called, she was loved by all. We will cherish our memories of Sarah as we strive to heal our broken hearts at the knowledge she is no longer here. She was truly one of a kind and the very best of us.
