Ruth Solomon Smith, 78, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on August 15, 2021. Ruth was born March 25, 1943, in Columbia, SC. She was the daughter of the late Edward Kirven Solomon and Tommie (Marian) Solomon.
She graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, NC and attended nursing school at Presbyterian Hospital, graduating in 1964.
Ruth was an incredibly caring nurse who provided intelligent and compassionate care to all her patients and was deeply respected by her fellow nurses and doctors. Ruth worked at Duke University Medical Center before moving to Jacksonville in 1979. From 1979 until her retirement in 2005, she worked in the Intensive Care Unit of Baptist Hospital and was one of the very first nurses at Baptist Hospital to sit for and receive her CCRN accreditation.
She will be remembered for her deep love and dedication to her children, for being a wonderful sister, and being a loyal friend.
Ruth is predeceased by her sister, Mary Anne Lamkin (Ronald). She is survived by her daughter Karin Corley (Craig) and sons, Rich Smith (Joy) and Scott Smith, her twin sister, Olivia Bradley, and grandchildren, Kennedy Smith, Aidan Smith, and Cameron Corley.
A celebration of life will be planned in the coming weeks.
