Rosemary Mozdy Scherrer entered eternal rest on July 2, 2024, at 89 years of age. She resided at Vicar’s Landing in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Rosemary was born in the small mining town of Shenandoah, Pennsylvania and was the only child to Michael and Agnes Mozdyniewicz (Mozdy). She left Shenandoah after graduating Shenandoah Catholic High School to attend St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, New York. During her training she went on a blind date and met Robert W. Scherrer, to whom she was married to for 38 years until his death in November 1995 from Multiple Sclerosis. During his illness, Rosemary was the primary caregiver and attended to his daily needs as a quadriplegic.
Due to Robert’s career as an FBI Special Agent, the family moved many times to include Cincinnati, Washington DC, Puerto Rico, New York, Florida and Buenos Aires, Argentina. They both loved to travel and did so extensively throughout South America. After Robert’s death, Rosemary continued to pursue her love of travel to various states throughout the U.S., and to Mexico and Spain. She was a Spanish speaker, and also spoke some Polish and Lithuanian. The highlight of Rosemary’s life was her family and she loved them dearly. Besides travel, Rosemary enjoyed reading, listening to music, playing the harp, and drinking coffee. She had a very keen sense of humor. Since her baptism, Rosemary has been a devout Catholic. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in the church choir. Later she would host many church gatherings in her home, to include midnight Christmas masses. While living in Palm Coast, FL, she became a Lay Carmelite.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Scherrer, daughter Laura Scherrer, her parents, aunt Mary Tomcavage, and her son-in-law, Scott Dumond. She is survived by her daughter Michelle Klimt (Robert) of Ponte Vedra Beach, daughter Lisa Dumond of Springfield, VA, and son Robert W. Scherrer, Jr. of Simpsonville, SC. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Megan Dumond Seefried (Kevin), Mason Dumond, and Ella Scherrer, whom she loved dearly.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge the care and love given to Rosemary at Vicar’s Landing, Windsor Health Care Center. Additionally, the family would like to thank Community Hospice of Jacksonville. A celebration of life will be held in the near future.
