Robert “Bob” Henry Hickox, 83, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife of 60 years, Lynne, and their three sons.
Born on August 5, 1941, in Lake Worth, FL, to Henry Lamar Hickox and Delores McDonald Hickox, Bob moved to Jacksonville with his family as a young boy. He married Lynne in November 1964, and together they shared a life full of love and adventure for over 60 years. Bob proudly served in the United States Army as a Vietnam War veteran. He and Lynne raised three sons: Clint, Eric, and Alec Hickox.
Bob is survived by his wife, three sons, three grandsons, four granddaughters, one great-grandson, and one great-granddaughter.
A passionate outdoorsman, Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. Though known for his quiet nature, his sons shared countless hours with him, whether offshore fishing with Clint, duck hunting in Louisiana with Eric, or freshwater fishing with Alec in Arkansas. Bob’s boys cherished these moments together in nature and remain some of their fondest memories. Bob's wisdom and calm presence during those times left an indelible mark on their lives.
Many were unaware of Bob’s poetic side, as he often wrote heartfelt poems for Lynne, a secret he kept between himself and his wife. His sons were surprised when they learned of this tender side of their father, a reminder of the depth of his love.
Throughout his sons’ childhood, Bob was self-employed, imparting to them a strong work ethic rooted in pride and perfection. One of his favorite sayings was, “If you can’t find time to do it right, how are you going to find time to do it over?” This philosophy shaped his work, which was always of the highest caliber.
Known far and wide for his culinary skills, Bob’s cooking was legendary. Whether preparing incredible fish fries, mouthwatering steaks, or perfectly pressure-cooked duck, Bob was the star of Saturday afternoon cookouts and church socials. If Bob was cooking, people would show up.
Bob will be deeply missed by all who know him. He leaves behind a legacy of excellence in all areas of his life. As a husband, father, friend, and confidant, Bob was a man of wisdom who would offer his advice when asked. His love, guidance, and quiet strength will be remembered by his family and friends for years to come.
