In Loving Memory of Robert Lewis Becton
November 19, 1944 – November 25, 2023
Robert Lewis Becton, a loving husband, dedicated father, and proud grandfather, passed away on November 25, 2023, at the age of 79 in Jacksonville, Florida.
Born in Atlanta, GA to Riley Becton, Lewis grew up and resided in Jacksonville. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Cheryl Smith, on July 29, 1966, in Nahunta, GA. Lewis was the hardest working man you’d ever meet. After 20 years of warehouse work with Pantry Pride he went on to work with Flowers Baking Company and Automated Refreshment Services. While working many 60-to-100-hour weeks, he instilled a strong work ethic in his children and has continued through to his grandchildren.
During his many years of route work he often stopped to help a homeless person with a meal and would feed any stray animal he came across. Lewis was never a cat person, but a little ginger whom he named Buddy found him and soon began his personal mission to feed every hungry cat in the neighborhood.
After retiring, he never had a bad day and took every opportunity to encourage others to find joy in each and every day. He read his Bible every day and enjoyed countless religious shows on television and supported Shepard’s Chapel.
Above all, Lewis was a dedicated husband and father who always put his family first. The older we got the smarter he got.
Lewis is survived by his loving wife Cheryl, two children, Robert Christopher (Brenda) Becton, Patricia (David) Launer, four grandchildren, Austin Becton, Emily (Will) Everett, Jake Becton, Kyle Becton, and one great grandchild, Josephine Everett
The family will honor Lewis’ wish of no memorial service.
James 4:14, ESV: “yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Jacksonville’s No More Homeless Pets in his memory.
