Rick Blane

March 12, 1944 — July 2, 2018

On Monday July 2, 2018, Gavin “Rick” Blane, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away suddenly.

Rick was born in Bayonne, NJ to Sophie and Gavin L. Blane.

Graduating RCA Institute and beginning his 48 year career with CBS, he worked with Arthur Godfrey and Captain Kangaroo before moving to the sports division. As a cameraman he covered all kinds of events including the Daytona 500, U.S. Open Tennis and The Masters.  His golf career started on the 16 th tower along side Pat Summerall, eventually moving to the 17th where he worked with announcer Ben Wright, then the 18 th tower where he spent the last 21 years with Jim Nantz.  Through his career Rick was awarded many Emmys for Outstanding Individual Achievements for Electronic Camera and Technical Team Remotes.

Upon his retirement and relocating to Saint Johns, Fl. from Butler, NJ, Rick was “Living his Dream” and playing golf, his passion. As well as golfing he enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and riding bikes.

He was known for his sense of humor, his “Hollywood Smile”, and his kind spirit.

Rick was preceded in death by his father Gavin, and his mother Sophie. He is survived by his devoted wife Jan, his loving son John, his adored grandson Gavin, his sister Gale and her husband Doug, his niece Shannon, her husband Wayne and their son Lawson, and several cousins.
