In Loving Memory of Richard William "Dick" Patrick August 13, 1939 - October 17, 2023
Richard William, "Dick" Patrick, a loving husband, dedicated father, adoring grandfather and cherished friend, passed away on October 17, 2023, at the age of 84 in Jacksonville, FL. Born in Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania, he was the youngest of four siblings. Dick's life was indelibly defined by his love for his family, followed by his passion for golf and college football, and finally for his long and successful career at AMP Incorporated. His infectious sense of humor and belly laugh were legendary among all who knew and loved him.
Dick graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1957, where he was voted "Best Looking" in his senior class, a testament to his charm and affability. His school days were also marked by his love for football, which would become a lifelong passion. He played the sport with dedication in high school, and his enthusiasm for football continued throughout his life as he cheered fervently for his beloved alma mater, Penn State, and the mighty Nittany Lions. He discovered golf early in his career and later instilled that love for the game in many of his family members. He joked that it was a prerequisite for future sons-in-law.
Professionally, Dick was an engineer by trade but he spent nearly 40 years in sales with AMP Incorporated. During his time there, he not only excelled in his role but also served as a mentor and friend to many. His kindness and sense of humor made a lasting impact on those he worked with, leaving a legacy of camaraderie and fun that will be remembered by many.
However, Dick's greatest joy in life was his family. Known as "Pop" to his immediate and extended family, he leaves behind a legacy of love for him and for each other. He was preceded in death by his father, John Francis Patrick; his mother, Harriet Edgar Patrick and his three siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Shetter Patrick, with whom he shared a deep and enduring love for more than 60 years. Together they built a big, boisterous, tight-knit family unit and provided unforgettable memories of beach vacations and holiday traditions that will be forever cherished by everyone in the Patrick clan.
Dick is survived by his four children, Jaime Patrick Davenport (Jim), Jill Patrick Black (Warren), Sean Richard Patrick (Elizabeth), and Kevin Shetter Patrick (Darcie). His influence will forever shape their lives and the lives of his eight devoted grandchildren, Penn and Hollis Davenport, Connor (Sarah) and Kyle Black, Ella, Hake, Jeep, and Milo Patrick.
Dick's memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He had an uncanny ability to make others feel part of the fun - always welcome, loved, and valued.
A Celebration of Dick's life will be held on a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to K9s for Warriors or Hilton Head Humane Society in his memory.
