Land O’ Lakes – Richard Gene Johnson, 86, passed away peacefully Friday, March 22, 2019, one day before his 87 th birthday. Born in Canandaigua, New York, Richard relocated to sunny Florida where he became a long term resident of Land O’ Lakes and calling it home for more than 40 years. He proudly built his home in 1972 and happily lived there ever since. He was a remarkably active member of the community, owning several thriving businesses and avidly volunteering countless hours with the Shriners Hospital for Children, Land O’ Lakes Senior Center, and many more great causes. He was a distinguished member of the Masons, Egypt Shriners, Moose Lodge, AmVets, and the Golden Eagles Motorcycle Club. He had a deep passion for planes, motorcycles, and travelling, specifically to his favorite locale, Mittersill, Austria. He loved Mittersill so much, he visited 40+ times always taking along family & friends to share in his joy. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Francis and Shirley Johnson, and step-daughter, Caye Cotney. He is survived by his sister, Sharon Pyfrom and husband, Dave; daughter, Billie-jean Fryer and husband, Steve; son, Richard C. Johnson and wife, Monique; step-daughter, Deborah Smith; grandchildren: Kristin, Lyndsey, Cynthia, Hope, Melina, Chase, and Catriona; great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Kourtney, Beckham, and Caleb; dear friend, Lolli Harlan and husband, Tom; and Gini Robinson and Gloria Hoffman and too many others to name. Affectionately known as a ladies’ man, he made friends wherever he went with his beaming smile and wonderful sense of humor. Richard will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held to honor Richard.
