Richard Scott Fyfe, 81, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on January 11, 2025, after a courageous battle to recover from complications following triple bypass surgery. He was predeceased by his parents and brother. He is survived by his beloved wife, Choi; his children, Tino (Caryn) and Miriam (Dan); his grandchildren, Kellie (Austin), Natalie (Brian), Stephanie (Michael), Caitlyn (Christian), and Mason; his great-grandchildren, Avie, Jedidiah, Gabriel, Hazel, Ellie, Ethan, Daniel, and Holly; and a new great-grandchild expected in February 2025.
Born on June 28, 1943, in Hackensack, New Jersey, Richard was the son of William and Edith Fyfe. He spent his early years in Maywood before his family moved to Haworth in 1949. After graduating from Northern Valley Regional High School in 1961, Richard sought the warmth of Florida by attending the University of Miami’s School of Business Administration. It was here that he formed lifelong friendships and became an active member of Delta Sigma Pi. His professional career took flight with Pan American World Airways, where he traveled the world, experienced diverse cultures, and made lifelong connections that enriched his life. While Richard eventually scaled back his work schedule, he never fully retired. He continued to work at Advantage Design Group.
In 1978, Richard settled in Jacksonville, Florida, where he met the love of his life, Choi. They married on January 15, 1983, at Highlands Baptist Church, spending over four decades building a life filled with love, laughter, faith, and a deep commitment to family and education. Their partnership stood as a testament to their shared devotion.
Richard’s interests included reading, writing, gardening, and music. One of his greatest joys was hearing his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren sing—music and family were constant sources of happiness throughout his life. His later years were enriched by his love of writing, including novels and reflections on his well-lived life. He was also known for his thoughtful and original approach to theology, often engaging in deep, meaningful discussions about his beliefs.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Church of Our Savior Episcopal, located at 12236 Mandarin Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223.
