Pilar Castro

April 3, 1932 — March 20, 2021

Pilar “Pila” Castro was a patient and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, March 20, 2021.

She was born in Medellin, Colombia and graduated from nursing school before relocating with her family to the US, where she invested in her community as a member of the Southside Newcomers Club and the Dogwood Garden Club.

Pilar enjoyed traveling, hosting parties, cooking, reading, knitting, playing games and cards, and beating her granddaughters in UNO.

Her family and friends knew her as an intelligent, loving, strong-willed and witty woman. She will be remembered by the love and value she poured into her friendships through her ability to listen deeply, remember and celebrate the details, and honor differences of opinions that made for spirited conversations.

She is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Salvador Antonio Castro.

She is survived by her son Miguel Castro and daughters and son-in-laws Maria and Mark Bruck and Clara and Mike Renaker; her grandchildren Jason, Jessica, Christina, Jennifer, Sophia, and Natalie; her great-grandchildren Carter and Brady; and her siblings, Luz, Beatriz and Alvaro.
