Phyllis Denise Oca, 74, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of 51 years Fred Oca of Jacksonville, son Freddie Oca of Glen St. Mary, son Rusty Oca of Jacksonville, daughter Lesley Oca of Land O’ Lakes, twelve (12) grandchildren and six (6) great grandchildren. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Harry Freeman and late Evelyn Muller (Richards).
Phyllis graduated from the University of Georgia but was a die-hard Florida Gator fan. She was a registered nurse at Riverside Hospital and St. Vincent’s Hospital for over 35 years and taught nursing at Florida Community College of Jacksonville (now Florida State College) for 9 years. She was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church and was previously a member of Avondale Baptist Church (now Grace Church of Avondale) for over 40 years.
Phyllis loved to sing, attend Gator games, critique new restaurants, and attend her children/grandchildren’s sporting and dance events. She especially loved Motown music, Patsy Cline, Sandi Patty, and Elvis. She also introduced her three children to: I LOVE LUCY, The Andy Griffith Show, and John Wayne. She loved travelling and antique shopping with her husband, Fred, on a regular basis; especially the mountains when the leaves were starting to change colors.
She is also famous for and will always be remembered for her puffy pink jacket and red snowflake sweater.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday March 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeshore Baptist Church, 2363 Blanding Boulevard, Jacksonville Florida, 32210.
