Patricia M. Scobie

December 16, 1921 — January 8, 2018

Patricia M. Scobie, born in Bronx, New York, passed away on January 8, 2018 in her home in Jacksonville, Florida surrounded by family. She was 96 years old. Patricia was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Richard H. Scobie. After graduation from St. Simon Stock High School she went on to Drake Business College, and soon found her niche in advertising. After a stint in the agency world, she worked at The Advertising Council on the unforgettable “Smokey the Bear” public service announcement and other memorable campaigns.

After World War II she and her husband were one of the first families to move into the new Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village, a large, post- World War II private residential development, on the east side Manhattan, gaining access only after writing to the then-president of Met Life, the developer, to complain about the company’s discriminatory practices.

They eventually moved to Ridgewood, N.J. to raise their growing family. Patricia leaves behind three daughters, Patricia J. Scobie and her husband Rod Myers of Washington D.C., Ellen Scobie of Wakefield, RI, Christine and her husband, George Salembier of Burlington, VT, and a son, R. Michael Scobie and his wife, Vaune of Jacksonville, FL, as well as six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

After raising her family, Patricia resumed her career, joining an employment agency, which she subsequently purchased. She sold the business after three successful years and, later, retired from an architectural firm as operations manager.

She and her husband retired to Myrtle Beach, SC and Jacksonville, FL.

She cared deeply for her family, and always put them first above all else in her life. She loved the beach, sunsets, bird watching, gardening and bargain hunting.

A memorial service will be in the spring at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel in the Prince of Peace Church, 330 Bennett Road, Jacksonville, Fla.

The family requests any donations be made to Hart Felt Ministries, P.O. Box 54699, Jacksonville, Fla. 32245.
