Patricia Nix, 88, passed away October 9, 2022. She was a native of Roseville, California and the only child of Myrtle and John of Council Grove, Kansas. Patsy, as she was called by her family, accompanied her parents to Kansas every summer on the train to visit her grandparents, many aunts, uncles and cousins. She graduated high school in 1951. By this time she was already an accomplished pianist and singer. She remained very close to her childhood and high school friends, returning often for reunions and to visit family.
After graduation she attended College of the Pacific, majoring in journalism and education. She continued singing and performing in musical theatre. After graduation in 1955 she taught elementary school in Bakersfield, California. Music remained a central part of her work and social life. She continued to play the piano, accompanied church choirs and children in her classrooms, and performed in local theatre.
Pat met her husband, Edmound Lee Nix, Jr. of Houston, Texas through her Kansas cousin Kay, who served in the army with Ed. They married in 1958 and moved to College Station Texas where Ed completed his degree and she taught school. This was the beginning of a life filled with travel as they moved across the country with Eastman Kodak Company. They lived in Texas, Georgia, California, and New York and made life long friends in every state. Pat and Ed raised their three children while Pat taught part-time and continued to perform in local theatre. Later in her career she was director of a children’s childcare center, preschool, and kindergarten.
Church was always a central part of Pat’s family life. She was a member of Christ Church in Pittsford, New York where she sang in the choir, became an alter woman, and served on many committees. She loved the holidays, gathering of family, and sharing the traditions of many cultures as we celebrated a different country at Christmas each year.
Pat loved sharing time with her family. She cared for her mother for several years following the death of her father. She traveled far to spend time with her children and grandchildren and had wonderful adventures in Utah, Maine and Florida. She loved seeing her children and grandchildren learn and perform music. She played piano and sang well into her later years. She enjoyed writing long letters and maintained correspondence with family and friends all over the country.
In her retirement years Pat found much joy in learning about other cultures and spent time traveling to foreign countries including Italy, South Africa and China.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edmound Lee Nix, Jr., her sister-in-law, Ann, of Gonzales Texas, and nephew Kevin of Leesville, Texas. Left to hold her memory close are her children; Carri and Richard, of Pownal, Maine, Scott and Mikki, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Julie and Todd, of Jacksonville, Florida, and her grandchildren; Owen, Katherine, Clara, Anna and Grant; nieces Cindy and Susan, as well as many dear friends.
Memorial and Funeral Services will be held next summer at Christ Church in Pittsford, New York.
