Nancye Jo Phillips Poore, 84, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born May 29, 1940, to her parents, Joseph Campbell Phillips and Pearl Hutson Phillips in Beckley, West Virginia. Nancye’s life was marked by devotion to her family, dedication to her career, and a love for life’s simple pleasures.
In 1961, Nancye married George (Pete) Houseman Poore, and together they had two children, Tracy and Todd. While Nancye and Pete divorced after 14 years, they remained close friends, often traveling together with their children and grandchildren, until Pete’s passing in 2009.
Nancye graduated from college in 1962. After her children were raised, she earned her Master’s degree in Business Administration. Nancye served as the Laboratory Director at Memorial Hospital until 1985, before transitioning to Vice President of Human Resources at Suntrust Bank, where she worked until her retirement in 2004.
Nancye’s love of her family and friends was evident in the time she spent with them, whether it was playing cards and board games, riding bikes or enjoying the beach together. She also loved reading any good court room or mystery novels. She was an accomplished pianist and painter, and she loved dancing.
Nancye was preceded in death by her parents, her son Todd Poore, her nephew Thad Phillips and her sister-in-law Linda Phillips. She is survived by her daughter, Tracy (Harry) Albright, her granddaughters Saejin (Caleb) Confusione and Summer Albright, and by her brother Joseph D. Phillips.
In accordance with her wishes, Nancye was cremated, and her ashes will be laid to rest in a serene spot on her brother’s land in Alabama with immediate family in attendance. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VITAS Hospice of Orange Park.
