Nancy J. Vining, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on February 23, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family that cannot be filled.
Nancy is survived by her children, Suzanne Vining-Waddell of Clarksville, TN, and Scott Vining (Elissa) of Parkland, FL; her cherished grandchildren, John Waddell, Sarah Waddell-Taylor, Suzanne Waddell-Mapps (Neal), Andrew Vining (Michelle), Kyle Vining, Sanford Vining, and Emily Vining; and eight great-grandchildren, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Sally Dorsey-Heykens (Bob), and her brother, James Dorsey (Julie).
Born in Louisville, KY, on October 6, 1938, to Ethel A. and Parker E. Dorsey, Nancy moved with her family to Jacksonville, FL, where she spent most of her formative years. She graduated from Bishop Kenny High School before beginning her career as an administrative assistant at Prudential Insurance. After raising her children, she returned to Prudential, where she ultimately retired as a regional compliance manager.
Nancy lived life on her own terms and dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family, friends, and the causes she cared about. She was known for her thoughtfulness, strength, and unwavering generosity—never forgetting a birthday or anniversary and always being the first to lend a helping hand. Her warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.
A Mass celebrating Nancy’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on March 8, 2025, at San Jose Catholic Church in Jacksonville, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
