Nancy Graessle Smith, 75, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2020, in her home following a brief illness.
Born on December 2, 1944 in Orlando, Florida, Nancy was the daughter of Albert W. Graessle, Jr. and Lois Thacker Graessle
Nancy graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1963 where she was head cheerleader. She earned her undergraduate degree from Auburn University and a Master of Education from the University of North Florida.
She primarily taught Special Education for 30 years in the Duval County School System at Hyde Park Elementary and Gregory Drive Elementary schools.
Through grades 1-12, she was very active with the Girl Scouts and achieved their highest award, the Curved Bar.
Nancy will be remembered for her kind and generous soul, her love of animals (particularly hummingbirds), and her affinities of pop culture that included Mickey Mouse, the Muppets, and the Star Wars android R2 D2. She also enjoyed visiting with friends, Diet Coke, chocolate chip cookies, and watching General Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lois Ellen Graessle, and her brother, Robert L. Graessle.
Survivors include daughters Christine Limbaugh (Charles) and Michelle Truelove (Todd), sister Julie Graessle (Javier Balloffet), brother William S. Graessle (Joann), granddaughter Caitlin Limbaugh, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Riverside Park United Methodist Church, 819 Park Street, Jacksonville, Florida with the Rev. Emily Knight officiating.
