Merline J. Harbin passed away peacefully on January 6, 2018 after a long battle with Frontal Temporal Dementia.
Merline was born March 10, 1938 to Nettie and Harry Johnson in Pensacola, FL. She had two brothers, Freddie Johnson and Kirk (Lynell) Johnson. Merline attended Florida State University where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and received her Bachelors degree in Physical Education. She was an active FSU booster and alumni member.
Merline worked for the Gateway Girl Scout Council in Jacksonville, FL for many years...eventually becoming the Executive Director at the Appalachia Bend Girl Scout Council in Tallahassee, FL. She retired in 2002, but maintained a lifetime Girl Scout membership.
She was an active member of the Mandarin Church of Christ and enjoyed being in the company of her Christian brothers and sisters.
Merline’s biggest achievement was her family. She married Nelson Harbin and together they raised 8 children, Charles Harbin, Bona (Jim) Regas, Janet (Curtis) Tetreault, Richard Harbin, Sharon (Kenny) O’Neal, Davalyn (Jack) Seay, Michael Harbin, and Jan (David) Owen. She had 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, with 2 on the way! Merline was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Sharon, and granddaughters Ann and Samantha.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Mandarin Church of Christ, 12791 Old St Augustine Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32258
