Melva "Jean" Mullis

Melva Jean Mullis of Jacksonville, FL, entered heaven on Thursday, April 11, 2019. She was 86 years old.

Born in Richwood, West Virginia, Jean led a Christ-centered life, always serving in her church. She played the piano, taught both Sunday school and disciple classes and was a mighty intercessory prayer warrior!

Jean worked for CSX for 31 years and absolutely loved her job there. Spending most of those years in Baltimore, MD, she relocated to Jacksonville, FL in 1989. Jean proudly retired with 5 years of perfect attendance in 1995.

Jean loved God, her family, music and sports — especially the Cubbies, the Jags, and anything West Virginia played!

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, C. Vance Mullis, daughter Alice Hogan, son James Hickman, daughter-in-law, Pamela Jo, stepdaughters, Kathleen Bogardy and Peggy Papesh and stepson, C. Vance Mullis, Jr., as well as 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Doyle & Monnie Gainer, her sister, Evelyn (“Sis”) McCombs, and brothers, Cecil, Vance, Paul and Marvin Gainer.
