Maxie "Mike" Earl Mccullough

Maxie (Mike) Earl McCullough, 84, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Jan. 27, 2022.  Born to Noah and Beulah Bryant McCullough in Bell, Florida, he graduated from Edenton High School, Edenton, N.C in 1956. He was married to Lois (Cathy) Cathleen Jordan McCullough of Jacksonville, FL, for 55 years.

Mike served in the United States Air Force as an Airman, repairing navigational radios, and graduated from Jacksonville University in 1968. Spanning a long professional career, he worked in the space industry, sales, finance, and general contracting.

He was a believer, worshiping at San Jose Baptist Church and The Church of Eleven22 for over 45 years. In his spare time, Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, cooking, and, in recent years, spending time at the ocean with his Flagler Beach coffee and spirits buddies, or in Jacksonville, with his lunch buddy at Jenkins Barbeque.

Mike will be remembered for his love of the Lord, his commitment to family, his expertise in friendship, the constancy of his character, and the life lessons he taught to the men and women who called him husband, father, co-worker, boss, neighbor, and friend. He endeavored to live by the words on a plaque kept in his office for six decades: “The world steps aside for the man who knows where he is going.”

He is survived by his wife, Cathy, two sons Michael (Elisabeth) McCullough of San Diego, CA, Steven Mark (Jessica Taft) McCullough of Jacksonville, FL, and daughter Kelly Cathleen (Daniel) Gammage of Jacksonville, FL. Mike was the proud grandfather to six grandchildren; Joel and Madeleine McCullough and Luke, Benjamin, Elijah, and Grace Gammage.

Memorial Services will be held March 11, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL., Dr. Terry Gore officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, The Church of Eleven22, or a preferred charity.
