Mark Howard Makavitt, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on September 20, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mark lived a life rich in love, dedication, and compassion for his family.
Mark is survived by his devoted daughters, Shannon Rawls (Bobby) and Stephanie Teitelbaum (Howard), and his cherished grandchildren, Calvin Turner, Bethany Rawls, Daniel Rawls, Sydney Teitelbaum, and Emily Teitelbaum. He is also survived by his eight great-grandchildren, and his sister, Heather Makavitt. He was predeceased by his wife, Marsha Makavitt; his parents, Thelma and Daniel Makavitt; and his siblings, Eileen and Jerry.
A dedicated professional in the furniture business for over fifty years, Mark was also an alumnus of the University of Georgia, where he remained a loyal fan. He had a profound love for history, sports, and music, passionately following the Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Atlanta Braves. Mark's appreciation for classical music was matched by his vast knowledge of composers, and he enjoyed curating an extensive collection of records and films dating back to the 1950s. A true “foodie,” he especially loved Italian cuisine and hot dogs.
Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Mark had a sincere talent for making people laugh. He was a devoted husband until the passing of his wife, Marsha, in 2018. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family while creating lasting memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
A memorial service for Mark will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 12:30 PM at River Garden, 11401 Old St. Augustine Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32258.
