Mamie Louise Sealand Lentz

November 2, 1930 — October 5, 2018

Mamie Louise Sealand Lentz passed away October 5, 2018, after a long illness.

Born November 2, 1930 in West Helena, Arkansas, at the height of the Great Depression, life was hard for Mamie as a sharecropper’s daughter.  But she remained a cheerful, happy person despite those early hard times and later as a Navy wife through many moves with four small children.  Reading and music always lifted her spirits, especially hymns.  She was also gifted with her hands, creating the most beautiful crocheted quilts, baby clothes, shawls and table scarves.

Left to cherish her memory are daughter Diana Bailey and her husband Kenneth, twin daughters Christine Kelly and Charlene Lentz, and son Charles Lentz Jr. and his wife Luanne.  Seven grandchildren—Kenneth Bailey Jr., Milton Kelly Jr., Charles Kelly, Jaisa Kelly, Tami Kelly, Diana Overman and Hanna Lentz—and fourteen great grandchildren also survive her.  Preceding her in death was her husband of 26 years, Charles P. Lentz Sr., as well as her father and mother, Chester W. and Viola Sealand; her brother Chester W. Sealand Jr.; and her sister Laura Sealand Waldrop.

Mamie, a longtime resident of Jacksonville, maintained her membership at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church for thirty years, even after she moved to an assisted living facility.  We will celebrate her life January 7, 2019, 11 a.m., at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 5042 Timuquana Road, Jacksonville, FL  32210.  A reception for family and friends will follow the service.
