Luz Martinez Obituary
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35
Luz Brunilda Martinez aka “Margie” passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, at the age of 73. December 21, 2024, would have been her 74th birthday. Although she was born in Cuamo, Puerto Rico, she was a native and resident of New York. Margie dedicated her career to helping others as a pharmacy technician, a role that reflected her kind and compassionate nature. Margie will always be remembered for her strong will, unwavering determination, as well as her love and support of her family and friends. She was deeply spiritual and never started or ended her day without her prayers which included the “Our Father” prayer in Spanish.
Amen.
In conversations she often quoted bible scriptures which included “don’t let your left hand know what your right had is doing” Matthew 6:3, “leave it all in God’s Hands” Psalm 25:1-5, Proverbs 16:3, 1 Peter 5:7, and her all-time favorite “it is better to give than to receive” Acts 20:35. Margie truly believed and lived like it was better to give than to receive. She was known for her generosity and selflessness which were unmatched, always giving without expecting anything in return. Her greatest joy came from bringing happiness to others and lending a helping hand whenever she could. Her generosity knew no bounds. She would take the shirt off her back without hesitation. She was not only generous in life, but even in death, Margie continued her legacy of giving as an organ donor. Margie was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a beautiful soul who would help anyone that needed it. Her radiant smile lit up any room she entered. She lived life to the fullest and cherished time spent with her family, friends and her beloved dog, Blackie. She found delight in simple pleasures such as listening and dancing to Spanish music while she cleaned the house and cooked dinner. Her favorite pastime included playing cards such as spades, casino and rummy 500, playing dominos, playing the lotto and Bingo and especially enjoyed time spent visiting the ocean.
Though she is no longer with us, Margie’s memory will live on in our hearts forever.
Margie is survived by her children: Mildred, Francisco (and wife May), Daniel, Elizabeth (and husband Calvin), Blanca (and husband Rodney), Joey (and wife Christine), and Yolanda; her grandchildren: Brandon, Daniel (and wife Nicole), Frankie Jr. (and wife Lindsey), Julie (and husband Brandon), Delante, Cynthia, Destiny, Joseph, Jay, Destiny, Margie, Angel, and Tito; her great-grandchildren: Xavion, Zion, Ayla, Melody, Jazzelle, Melanie, Eli, Journey, Saige, Ayanni, Ilyanah, Niylah, Syn’cere, Jayden, Jalayna, and Keilani; and her siblings: Olga, Lydia, Lylliam, Cookie, Miriam and Leo
