Lucie Adamski Baker

August 24, 1924 — March 9, 2022

Lucie Adamski Baker, 97, a retired beauty salon owner, and longtime resident of Jacksonville, died peacefully in her home on March 9, 2022.  She is survived by her daughters, Monica Baker Oglesby of Jacksonville and Denise Baker Richarme of Gainesville.  She is predeceased by her parents and brothers and leaves a number of nieces and nephews in Germany.

Lucie was born August 24, 1924, in Potsdam, Germany.  As a young girl of 19, she was interred in a concentration camp and after escaping survived in the woods until rescued by her brother.  At the age of 23 she immigrated to the United States in 1947 and married John Baker, a GI she had met during the War.  Although she was a proud naturalized US citizen, she and her daughters spent many summers in East Germany with her family.

In the true German tradition, she was a fiercely independent woman living an active life into her later years.  She was an avid golfer having won numerous tournaments and remained active by walking daily in her neighborhood.  She enjoyed caring for her pets over the years and loved music, dancing, gardening and interior decorating.  The greatest joy in her life was the love of her daughters and seeing their happiness and successes in life.
