Mr. Larry Gene Mitchum, 80, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024, after succumbing to various health issues at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Larry was born to Gene Mitchum and Mary Lorene Schumpert on July 14, 1943, in Columbia, SC. Upon graduating from Eau Claire High School in 1962, he served our great country in the US Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was a proud Veteran having served during the Vietnam Conflict. His post-service years were spent in the collections and inspections fields for various firms. He loved his work and the traveling experiences it provided. He eventually retired from Oakwood Homes in 2006 and enjoyed his time pursuing other interests. He loved cheering on the South Carolina Gamecocks and his beloved Jacksonville Jaguars, for whom he was proud to be a ticket holder from day one. He was known for spoiling all the children within his family throughout the years. Larry will be remembered for his storytelling, laughter, and love for his family.
