Larry Michael Hicks

Larry Michael Hicks, 64, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.  He was born to Mabel and Roy Hicks on August 7, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan.  Larry grew up in the church and was a member of a gospel group, as well as playing in school orchestra and band.   After leaving Michigan, Larry attended University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky where he majored in jazz and blues performance.

As owner of Florida Blinds and Shutters for over 20 years, Larry was often called “the Blind Man”.  Larry loved his customers and never met a stranger.  He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his musical talents, his kindness and his mentorship of young people.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Albert Leroy Hicks.  He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Paula (Mullen), his son Larry Michael II of Titusville, FL and his stepdaughters Laura Leuthold (Lorin) of Jacksonville, FL and Kara Donley (Don) of Parrish, FL.

Also surviving Larry are his five grandchildren, Taylor Donley, Luke Donley, Lindsay Leuthold, Gavin Leuthold and Abby Leuthold.  To these precious five, he was known as Papa.

Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 11 a.m. at Christ’s Church, 6045 Greenland Road in Mandarin.  Moo Hadden will be officiating.
