Kerita Maria Moulton (also known as “Juney,” aka “Dimples”, and to those brave enough to utter, “Mudfish”), born on June 5, 1946, in Kingston, Saint Andrews Parish, Jamaica, strutted her way onto life's dance floor in the sky, on Sunday, March 10, 2024, leaving behind a trail of laughter and love.
Born to Wesley Moulton, a welder extraordinaire who could fashion anything out of metal, and Dorothy (“Ms. Peggy”) Burton, a caregiver with a heart of gold, Kerita embodied the perfect blend of strength and tenderness.
A woman of God with a hotline to heaven, Kerita's faith could move mountains, or at least inspire a few angels to bust a move. With a personality as bright as the Jamaican sun, she turned every gathering into a party, complete with music, laughter, and some serious dance moves. Her vibrant personality and positive outlook on life were infectious, bringing joy to all who knew her.
She never hesitated to lend a helping hand or even her last clean shirt! Her generosity was as boundless as her spirit, always there to lift others up and lighten their load. Whether it was a listening ear, a deep house cleaning, or a heartfelt kiss and a hug, she gave it all with a smile.
After parting ways with her husband, Roy Stewart, Kerita was a single mom to her trio of troublemakers – Avril Lloyd, Claudia Shaid, and Jaja Moulton – Kerita juggled more tasks than a circus performer on a unicycle. From homemaking to multi business-owning, and a master licensed hair-cutting beautician, she did it all with flair, never missing a beat.
Known for her impeccable cleanliness and culinary prowess, Kerita's kitchen was a hub of activity and warmth. Her kitchen was a culinary playground where neighborhood children lined up for a taste of her magic. With her spatula as her wand, she whipped up meals faster than Usain Bolt, leaving mouths watering and bellies full. The children were not only drawn to the delicious meals, but also by the love and care she infused into every dish.
But Kerita wasn't just about cooking; she was also the neighborhood referee, ready to throw down if anyone messed with her cubs. Her "mama bear" instincts were legendary – cross her if you dare!
In her later years, Kerita embraced the role of doting grandma to Chelsea, Ciarra, and Jace, trading in her dancing shoes for playdates and bedtime stories. She was the ultimate playmate, ready to drop everything for a game or a giggle.
Though she's left the earthly realm, Kerita's laughter still echoes in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her. Though she may be gone, her spirit will live on in the cherished memories she leaves behind.
She is survived by her children, Avril Lloyd, Claudia Shaid, and JaJa Moulton, and grandchildren, Chelsea Shaid, Ciarra Lloyd, Amaya Moulton, and Jace Dixon.
A celebration of her life will be held this Saturday on March 16, 2024, where stories will be shared, tears shed, and laughter unleashed in her honor. In lieu of flowers, please bring one of her favorite games to play (e.g., Ludi, backgammon, crossword puzzles, word search), pictures of our beautiful Kerita, and/or a delicious dish in her honor. Feel free to wear colors (or black, if you wish) as this will not be a sad affair; it will be a celebration of her life. Let's keep the good times going – she wouldn't have it any other way.
Please visit the family's personal tribute page to leave condolences and share stories and photos of Kerita.
