Kathleen Moore Delage, 84, of Orange Park, FL, passed away on Ash Wednesday, 3/6/2019. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and caregivers after a prolonged illness. Kathy was born on 8/3/1934 in Greenwich, CT, daughter of the late Thomas Wheeler Moore and Prudence Milton Moore. She was beautiful.
Kathleen graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Stamford, CT, and attended both the Wood School in Manhattan and the University of CT. She was employed in customer service with the Southern New England telephone company (back when an actual person answered the phone) and later as the executive secretary to the President of the Ward Baking Company.
Kathy married her beloved husband, Paul Monnie Delage, on 11/9/1957 in Greenwich, CT. They took the vow of “in sickness and health” to heart right away, as they were both suffering from the Spanish Flu during the ceremony. According to Paul, she became his “supervisor” for the next 61 years. The two of them lived in a total of five states and two foreign countries in Paul’s service with the US Navy. They settled in Florida in 1970 with their four children. Kathy became a grandmother of four. Many happy memories were made in her home and she was acclaimed as the “Queen of all Grandmothers”. She was quick to acknowledge that every grandmother feels this way, but she did indeed feel like royalty concerning her love for her family.
Kathleen was a Freelance Writer, contributing feature articles for several local newspapers. She was also the founding editor of the Blarney Stone, the first newsletter for St. Catherine’s Catholic Church (back in the day when cut and paste required scissors and glue). She assisted local writer, Virginia Wilson, with the book Sleep Thief , which is still in publication and continues to be a valuable reference for doctors and patients on Restless Legs Syndrome.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Jack Moore and his wife Julie, as well as her sister Nancy Wolfert and her husband George.
She is survived by her husband, Paul, and their four children Tom Delage, Diane Delage, Danny Delage (Judy) and their children Carrie Alters (John) and Daniel Delage, and daughter Nanette Delage and her children Tommy Houston and Franky Sandefur; as well as nieces Georgina Wolfert and Rachel “Kalahar” Jackson who both received her motherly love and care in the time they spent in her home. When considering family, she always included Jim Crossman, by whom she was honored to be considered a second mom.
Kaki, we will miss you. In these sad days, we are reminded again and again by your friends, family members, and acquaintances how you were known for your kindness, sense of style, quiet strength and most of all for your love.
