Karen Glenetta Johnson-Flanders, 54 passed on May 30, 2024. She was born June 25, 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida to the union of Sharon Marshall-Johnson and the late Ervin Johnson.
Karen was a product of Duval County Public Schools. She graduated Andrew Jackson High School with honors in 1987. She was a member of the marching and symphonic bands.
After graduation from Andrew Jackson High School, Karen enrolled at Bethune-Cookman Cookman College (B-CC), Daytona Beach, Florida. She was a member of the B-CC Concert Chorale and Student Government Association. Karen also studied and received her AS in early childhood education from Daytona Beach Community College. She was an active supporter and volunteer of the Duval-Nassau Bethune-Cookman University Alumni Association until her passing.
As a child, Karen was a member of Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church where she returned upon her relocation to Jacksonville a few years ago. Prior to her relocation, Karen, her former husband Stacy Flanders and children were members of the Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church, Orlando, Florida.
Karen was a lifelong educator of young children, serving as an early childhood instructor in South Florida, Central Florida, Jacksonville, Florida and Atlanta, Georgia. She served in this capacity for over 30 years.
Karen was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her father, godparents, John & Viola Hagan, great-grandmother, Elvira Keith, a host of uncles and an aunt.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Rahnecia Baldwin, son Jachary Baldwin, grandson Daveon Little, mother Sharon Johnson, brother Ervin Johnson (Monica), sister Cheryl Johnson-Smith (Ronaldo), uncles Heyward Grier and Kenneth Ross, aunt Kathy Marshall-Jackson (Donald), a host of other family members, friends and loved ones.
There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Service in honor of Karen Johnson-Flanders on Friday, June 21, 2024, 5:00 p.m. at the Greater Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. Expressions of sympathy can be received by the Greater Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church.
