John Philip "Jack" Wallace

John Philip “Jack” Wallace, 86, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on November 24, 2022. He was born on May 21, 1936 to Clayton and Hilda (Sheehan) Wallace in Winterset, Iowa and spent his childhood on their family farm with his 6 brothers and sisters. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1954, and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served his country before attending the University of Iowa. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Jack went to work for Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 30 years where he was a Corporate Executive overseeing operations for nuclear plants in Tampa, Florida, Chalon - sur - Saône , France, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Athens, Georgia, Ft Payne, Alabama, and LaGrange, Georgia before retiring in 1998. Following his retirement from Westinghouse, he formed his own Commercial Appraisal business named Wallace Real Estate Services where he continued working until the beginning of his illness in early 2020.

Jack was a true history buff and had many hobbies including golfing, hunting, building and fixing things, working on cars and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed watching football and was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Georgia Bulldogs. He also spent time tracing his family genealogy with his brothers and co-wrote a book entitled “Emeralds of the Heartland” which is currently published in the Library of Congress.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Hilda, brother Tom and sisters Kathy and Rosemary. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jean Wallace; daughters Erin (Nathan) Ledbetter and Bryn Wallace; two grandsons Rivers and Reece Ledbetter; twin brother Gene (Katherine) Wallace of California, brother Jim Wallace of Texas and sister Teresa Casraiss of Maryland; nieces and nephews and dear friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11665 Fort Caroline Road, Jacksonville, FL, Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:00am.
