John Benedict Dubiel (Jay), 66, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2017 in Jacksonville, FL with family and friends by his side. Jay was born on August 29, 1951 in Hartford, CT to John Dubiel and Clara Wasniewski Dubiel. Jay grew up in Avon, CT and graduated from Marianapolis Preparatory School in Thompson, CT. Jay attended Virginia Commonwealth University, and made his home in Virginia ever since. Jay had many gifts, including an eye for design and beauty in life. He managed the AR Via jewelry store in South Boston, VA for many years. Jay was a Renaissance man, who was a self-taught expert in many diverse areas, ranging from horticulture, to Arts and Crafts Movement furniture and pottery, to vintage bicycles, selling parts to customers in Europe and Japan. He was also a dedicated owner of greyhound dogs. Jay leaves behind his brother Rick of Avon, CT, his nephew Brian Dubiel, his niece Alaina Dubiel, and Rhonda Perry – his very special friend of over 30 years. The family would like to thank UVA Hospital, Mayo Clinic, McGraw Hospice and especially Rhonda Perry. A celebration of Jay’s life will be held at Carmon Funeral Home, 301 Country Club Rd, Avon, CT sometime in January 2018.
