We are heartbroken to share that John A Burke died on March 23, 2024 one week shy of his 77th birthday from complications related to Parkinson’s and pneumonia. John is preceded in death by his grandson, Aiden Kramer (2008-2023). He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Beverly Burke, his two daughters Kristin Burke and Melissa Kramer, her husband Matthew Kramer and their three children Tyler, Brooke and Gabe Kramer.
John was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Navy as a weather scientist in Antarctica.
He was a highly respected and sought after high school AP math and science teacher for over 30 years teaching students from Ft. Pierce, Fl to Wakula and then St Johns, Fl. He was awarded teacher of the year numerous times, also working as a Dean and Assistant Principal in Ft. Pierce.
John loved to run! He enjoyed traveling to races such as the New York Marathon, the Atlanta Peach Tree Road race, the Tampa Gasparilla as well as the Jacksonville Gate River Run which he ran 24 times. John was still running in his early 70’s until diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
John was funny, brilliant, and sarcastic in the best way. He loved helping people, especially his daughters. He was always there to lend a hand, pick up a grandchild, take a car to be fixed or go get groceries if you were sick.
John was loved by so many throughout his nearly 77 years, he will be missed greatly. In lieu of flowers the family is asking you make a donation to Growing Together Behavioral Center, the school his daughter founded for his autistic grandson. www.gtbjax.org
