Our beloved Jerome "Jerry" Phillip Peckham passed away peacefully with hospice on April 8, 2025, after an unexpected eight-week hospital stay.
Born September 5, 1942, in Miami, Florida, he spent his childhood years in Miami and Tampa. After serving four years in the Marine Corps, Jerry began a long career with Commercial Credit, where he met his first wife, Judy Cheatham. They married in 1964 and had their only daughter, Laura aka "Bunky" in 1966. In the early '70's, he met his second wife, Ann Fleming and Jane aka "Baby Jane", in Jacksonville, FL and together they relocated to Fort Lauderdale. After retiring from Commercial Credit, Jerry went on to have a second career with the United States Postal Service. He worked for 20 years at the Dania Beach, FL post office. In 1994, Ann reconnected with her first-born daughter, Debora O’Callaghan. Jerry welcomed her and her two children that would soon follow with open arms. He and Ann retired to Deland, FL in 2005.
Jerry is survived by two daughters: Laura Taylor (Brett) and Jane Fleming (Mark); Debora O’Callaghan; former spouse: Judy Cheatham (Mason); five grandchildren: Teige, Tobi, Grace, Spencer, and Katelyn; his cousins (who were more like siblings): Martha Martinez, Joy Jackson, Melanie Wood, Fran Bailey, Marcia Masi, Mary Grace Romo, Alicia Bailey, and dear friend of 50+ years: Harold Fine ( Susan). He was preceded in death by his beloved Mother, Annie Belle Bass Peckham and wife, Georgia "Ann" Fleming Peckham.
Jerry spent his retirement days traveling around to different flea markets and thrift stores dropping off snacks and juice to all of his friends making sure no one went hungry. If you could tie him down for a few hours and get him to the card table, everyone would enjoy a rousing round of Gizmo where you might lose your quarters as well as gain a new nickname. He had an endless supply of snacks, jokes, nicknames, and friends. He will be dearly missed by every person that ever had the pleasure of meeting him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 18th 2-5pm at 2636 Mockingbird Village DeLand, FL 32720. All are welcome.
