James Hudson Stiegler

December 7, 1939 — April 29, 2024

James Hudson Stiegler, a dedicated Indian Land, South Carolina community member and family man, went to his Heavenly home on April 29, 2024. Born on December 7, 1939, James, known as Jim, was an only child born in Newport News, Virginia, to Virginia Guy and Oscar Stiegler. As a military child, Jim lived in many places before finally settling in Maryland for the majority of his life.  Jim lived a life of service and commitment to his family. He married Ann Putnam on June 14,1969 and was a beloved husband for 54 years. He was a loving father to Scott Stiegler and devoted father-in-law to Kerry Stiegler. Jim adored his grandsons, Everett, and Graham, and cherished every moment spent with them.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Jim earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and went on to have a distinguished career at Westinghouse/Northrop Grumman, where he devoted 39 years of his life to his work and made significant contributions to the Aerospace and Defense field. One of his longest projects involved helping to design the AWACS radar used on military planes for both defensive and offensive air operations. He retired in 2007, and at that time he and Ann moved to Indian Land, South Carolina.

Jim was a gentle giant of a man filled with faith, character, and wisdom. He was a devoted member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and an active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, where he selflessly dedicated his time and skills to help build homes for those in need. His passion for giving back to the community extended beyond his volunteer work; he was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was well-known to all his friends and family for his talented woodworking and handyman skills and always had the right tool to fix anything.
In addition to his charitable endeavors, Jim had a love for sports, particularly tennis, horseshoes, and bike riding. In his younger days, he coached his son’s sports teams and was always there to cheer on his grandsons at any sporting events.

A celebration of Jim’s life will take place on May 25, 2024 at 2PM at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church (238 Fort Mill Highway, Indian Land, SC 29707). The service will also be live streamed on the church website. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Habitat for Humanity of York County (P.O.
