James Richard Nelson was born March 25, 1946 in Alexandria, Minnesota. James went to join Jesus in heaven after a battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He died Sunday, 12 August 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida surrounded by his family.
The son of Oscar Lavern and Ellen Birdyne (Bartholome) Nelson, James grew up on Lake Geneva on his parents' resort. He earned a Business Degree from St. Cloud State University and a Master's Degree in Accounting from the University of North Florida. He served in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. James was a member of Clay County VVA, Florida Chapter 1059. Final internment will be at Jacksonville Florida National Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
James met the woman God created for him at St. Cloud State University, MN. To this union a son and daughter blessed the marriage. James was deeply devoted to his family and friends, ready to help anyone at any time. He will be remembered for his loving nature and his kind and generous spirit.
James was a member of the Good Samaritan Anglican Church in Middleburg, Florida. He lived his life with strength from the 23rd Psalm, a copy given him at Confirmation at the First Congregational Church in Alexandria.
James was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Maxwell Matthews. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Nelson of Jacksonville, FL; son Marshall Nelson of Tampa, FL; granddaughter Victoria Nelson of Jacksonville, FL; grandson Cullen Nelson of Tampa, FL; daughter Jamie Matthews, granddaughter Epiphany (Jordan) Weaver, great-grandson Rhett Weaver and great-granddaughter Kathleen Weaver of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter Olivia (Nahit) Coskun, and great-granddaughter Zeynep Coskun of Lawrenceville, GA.
A celebration of James' life will be held on the 18th of August, 2018 at Good Samaritan Anglican Church.
