James Edward Holmes

In loving memory of James Edward Holmes, who was born on August 15, 1945, and passed away on January 10, 2024.

James was preceded in death by his father Ray Holmes, mother Vivian Holmes, and brothers Ray Holmes Jr. and Gary Holmes. He is survived by his sons Scott and Matthew Holmes, sisters Barbara Craven and Joyce Rowland and longtime caregiver Gena Price.

James was a part of the 1st graduating class at the University of North Florida (1973) where he received his bachelor’s degree in education. James, a retired schoolteacher from the Duval County School Board, dedicated his life to instructing the youth in all major subjects from elementary to high school. His passion for teaching left an indelible mark on the countless students whose lives he touched.

James will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to education and his ability to inspire and guide young minds. In addition to his teaching career, James had a deep love for music and found joy in sharing his musical talents with others. His impact on the lives he touched through his kindness, humor, and wisdom will be fondly remembered.
