James Millard Gormley

January 30, 1961 — December 24, 2019

James Millard Gormley, 58, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 24, 2019.

Born to Margaret Buffalo and Charles Gormley on January 30, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii, James was a graduating member of the Class of '79 of Englewood High School in Jacksonville, Florida.  He proceeded to build a 35-year career in the flooring industry and was the owner/operator of Gormley Flooring.

He and his wife June graciously entertained family and friends at their home, a place filled with good times and special memories. "Chef James" loved living dangerously in the kitchen, trying his hand at many gourmet dishes much to June's delight. James was creative, artistic, and passionate about everything he did and was a loving and devoted husband, father, and granddaddy. He loved spending time with the grandchildren getting down and playing with them was incredibly important to him and if he couldn’t be with them he would video chat with them his face lit up every time.  The grandchildren were his world and he would do anything for them.  He was a member of Celebration Church's Julington Creek Campus and a sustainer of the Trump 2020 campaign as well. And if the Miami Dolphins were playing, good luck trying to get him away from the screen! He was their Number One Fan for decades. If James was your fan, he was fully dedicated. He loved listening to live music and had many wonderful friends in Jacksonville's musician community who loved seeing his face in the crowd. Watching DVDs of concerts in his home theater at deafeningly loud volumes was a favorite pastime, as well. James expressed his own artistic creativity through playing bass and drums and painting with watercolors. He was someone who could make a whole room smile when he entered it because his own smile and positive attitude was infectious, and his generosity, sincerity, and caring nature will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Buffalo and Charles Gormley and his oldest brother, George Rocco Marshall.

He is survived by his wife, June Gormley; children, Josh (Amber) Gormley, Sheana Gormley, Tiffany (Justin Wasson) Thibideau, and Amanda (Derek) Bickerton; grandchildren, Christina, Royce, Greyson, Miles, River, Lucas, Lily, and Ben; brother, Steve Gormley; sisters, Debi (Brian) Mitchell and Terri (Mike) Kemp; nieces and nephews, Aaron, Connor, Jessica, Brian, Summer, Chandler, Garrett, and Ashlynn.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 9, 3:00 P.M. at Celebration Church Julington Creek Campus, 616 FL-13, St. Johns, FL 32259 by Pastor Bob Neal.
