Jack Thaddeus Tinsley, Jr.

January 15, 1943 — January 7, 2022

Jack Thaddeus Tinsley, Jr. was born on January 15, 1943 and died on January 7, 2022, just a week shy of his 79 th birthday. He was the son of Jack Thaddeus Tinsley Sr. and Ouida Naomi Johnson. Jack graduated from Palatka High School in 1961 and then entered the United States Air Force where he served in Germany as an Air Policeman from 1964-1966. After his military service, he attended the University of West Florida where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems. Jack went on to the University of North Florida to earn his Master of Business Administration in 1977. Jack was the Director of the Computer Center for the University of North Florida for 12 years before the family moved to Johnson City, TN to take a position with East Tennessee State University.  Jack decided it was way too cold to live in Tennessee and moved back to Florida where he was Associate Vice President of Information Systems for Florida Community College at Jacksonville, now FSCJ. He retired from Palm Beach County Community College in 2003.  Jack enjoyed playing golf and played in several men’s groups.  He also loved to cheer on (and yell at) the Florida Gators.  After retirement, Jack and Joyce took a cross country trip, went on several cruises and experienced some amazing vacations. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce Shepard Tinsley and their four daughters Kelly Kennedy (Mike), Ouida Mounts (Jeff), Alison Anderson (Greg), and Amy Conner (Buddy). Jack has several grandchildren, Kristin Kennedy (Amanda), Jake Kennedy, Shelby Kennedy, Caleb Mounts, Emma Mounts, Alexander Anderson, Emily Anderson, Kristie Conner, Cammie Rewis, JB Conner and a great grandson on the way. Jack is also survived by his sisters Ann Nienow, Virginia Livingston, Elizabeth Lineberger, and brother Hollis Tinsley and several nieces and nephews.

Jack will be laid to rest with military honors at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.  The service will be held at 12:30 on Friday, February 4, 2022.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you make a donation to Hospice of Northeast Florida.
