Harry C. Durney, Jr.

December 18, 1931 — November 5, 2021

Harry C Durney, Jr 89, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021, at his home in Ponte Vedra, FL after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.  Harry was born in Yeadon, PA on December 18, 1931 to Harry and Marie (Hammer) Durney.  He attended public school in Yeadon where he excelled in academics, football and wrestling.  After graduating high school Harry enlisted in the United States Navy.  Upon completion of his military service, he attended The University of Pennsylvania where he was a member of the wrestling team, sang in the glee club and graduated with a BS in Biology.  He also earned a Master’s Degree from Westchester University.  While at Penn, he met his wife to be, Alicemarie Klein.  They married on December 29, 1956.  Harry spent his career as a teacher and coach (Cross Country, track and wresting) at Widener University in Pennsylvania and Kingsway Regional High School in New Jersey.  Harry and Alicemarie purchased Starcrest Marina in Wildwood Crest, NJ.  During school breaks and post retirement Harry spent his summers on the dock having fun bantering with his customers.  In 2016, Harry and Alicemarie left the cold PA winters and moved to Ponte Vera, FL.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Alicemarie Durney; daughters: Tina Gibson (Steven), of Reisterstown, MD; Connie Durney-Goldstein(Deb) of Ponte Vedra, FL and his grandchildren: Joshua Gibson(Casey) of Ponte Vedra, FL; Joseph Gibson of Concrete, WA; and Jacob Gibson of Reisterstown, MD.

A Dignified Alternative-Hatcher Cremations, Jacksonville, is in charge of his cremation and he will be interred in Saint Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA.
