Gigi Barfield, 83, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on September 10, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer.
Gigi was born on June 1, 1940, to Philipp and Elisabeth Geisselseder in Nurnberg, Germany. While living in Germany, Gigi worked and traveled to many parts of the world. In 1979, Gigi and the love of her life, Art, were married and moved from Nurnberg, Germany to Pensacola, Florida.
Gigi and Art owned their own business for many years before Art retired. Gigi continued working as the Fabric Department Manager at Wal-Mart. She enjoyed her work there and loved to help others by giving sewing advice. She was an extremely accomplished seamstress and enjoyed creating numerous embroidery projects for herself and others.
Gigi was a devoted member of Daughters of the Nile in Pensacola for many years before she and Art moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 2005, where she remained a very active member. For many years she travelled annually throughout the United States and Canada to attend the Daughters of the Nile Supreme Session.
She and Art moved to Jacksonville to be closer to their grandchildren. Her greatest love was being Oma to Anna, Morgan and Ryan. She was very involved in their lives and supported them in any way she could. Simply put, she adored them. She enjoyed attending their dance recitals and competitions, baseball games, soccer games, plays, musicals, piano recitals and all other activities.
Gigi was fiercely independent and always kept busy with family and numerous friends and organizations. In addition to the Daughters of the Nile, she enjoyed attending events with the Beaches Shrine Club, the Red Hatters and the J. Wendell Fargis Masonic Lodge #356.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Art. She is survived by her daughter Gabriele (Gaby) Beyer and her three grandchildren Anna, Morgan and Ryan Beyer. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
