Gerhard Emil Henschel

Gerhard Emil Henschel, 88, of Middleburg, passed away peacefully on Friday June 24, 2022.  He was born on August 4, 1933 in Germany to Gerhard and Anna (Johns) Henschel.   He was a dedicated husband, father, and Opa. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Anna. His 3 sons Pete (Patty), Mike (Angie), and Tony (Debi).  He also has 2 grandsons Mikey and Tony.  He was preceded in death by his father Gerhard, mother Anna, and brother Horst.

He came to the United States in 1955 in which he joined the United States Army in 1958.   Where he rose to the rank of First Sergeant, Green Beret, 12 ^th Special Forces Airborne in his 27 year career.  Gary’s occupation by trade was a diesel mechanic, but his passion was being in the Army.  He enjoyed working on cars mainly his 53 Buick Skylark, skydiving, riding his motorcycle, gardening, and spending time with his loving family.

Gerhard will have a Full Honors Ceremony at the National Cemetery in Jacksonville at a future date.  A celebration of life will be held after his service in Bryceville, FL.   In lieu of flowers please donate to Community Hospice or a Veterans organization.
